The Horizon 2020 EU funded project WaterProtect aims to protect drinking water resources where intensive agriculture could cause pollution by pesticides and nitrates. WaterProtect identified and developed innovative participation and governance strategies and promoted the most appropriate mitigation measures in seven so called “Action Labs” spread across EU member states.
Natural Mineral Waters Europe (former EFBW) has been working together with different EU stakeholders for more than two years on WaterProtect. As a proud member of the consortium led by VITO, NMWE’s role in the project was to showcase some of its members’ best practices in the field of source protection.
Indeed, natural mineral and spring water have a long-standing experience protecting the environment around their water sources to maintain the pristine qualities of their natural mineral waters and spring waters. Our sector showcased the close cooperation maintained between farmers, local communities, NGOs and natural mineral or spring water producers to reduce point source and diffuse pollution at catchment scale.
