08/09/2026.- EuPC, EXPRA/EPRO, NMWE, PETCORE Europe and UNESDA have jointly developed guidance to support the implementation of Article 6 of Regulation (EU) 2022/1616 on recycled plastic materials and articles intended to come into contact with food.
The guidance provides practical elements for collection, sorting and final pre-processing operators, covering requirements for waste origin, separate collection, quality assurance, traceability and quality control. It also provides elements to support the development of certification schemes.
The guidance is also relevant in the context of the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), which sets minimum recycled-content requirements for plastic packaging and provides for further EU rules on the calculation and verification of recycled content. The guidance will inform the associations’ submission to the European Commission’s work in this area, with a view to providing a basis for equivalent assessment, verification and certification approaches.
