21/09/2026.- NMWE has been selected by the European Commission to join the Water Resilience Stakeholder Platform, contributing the perspective of the natural mineral and spring water sector to the EU’s work on water resilience.
The first meeting brought together stakeholders from across sectors to discuss priorities for the Platform’s work ahead. One message stood out clearly, voiced by Commissioner Jessika Roswall: water stewardship is a responsibility shared by every sector.
Among the areas discussed, nature-based solutions, including the proposed Sponge Facility, were ranked as the top priority for the Forum’s work in 2027–2028. The role of agriculture in water resilience will also be addressed, while public awareness around water pricing, cost recovery and the polluter-pays principle will be part of the Forum’s future work.
The European Commission also presented its ongoing work on water efficiency, including the development of an efficiency methodology and framework. As this work progresses, the objective of the workstream remains increasing water resilience.
The Platform will now move towards more focused thematic work, with sub-groups expected to develop around stakeholders’ areas of interest.
NMWE looks forward to contributing to this work and to the wider European discussion on water resilience and responsible water management.
